The driver should be motivated, have good work ethic and strong desire to learn. This would be a good opportunity for someone entering the construction industry who is keen to gain a wide variety of skills. The candidate would work closely with the project superintendent and have the opportunity to improve their skills and gain experience.

Labourer

Support for the foreman and team on site by performing tasks involving physical labour like lifting, stacking, moving objects, shovelling, general cleanup, light carpentry, and possibly operate handheld power tools of varying types.

Carpenter

Apprentice/Helper

An apprentice is a person in the process of becoming a skilled carpenter through training and experience. Apprentices study both in the classroom and on-the-job, under the guidance of skilled workers of that trade, called Journeymen. Apprentices earn a good income and learn a trade – all at once. Hasler Homes works with ITA to support this process.

Carpenter

A carpenters position on the site is very versatile. As part of a single job, they might build and set forms for footings, walls, and slabs, and frame and finish exterior walls, roofs, and decks. They also frame interior walls, build stairs, and install drywall, crown molding, doors, and cabinets. In addition, residential carpenters may tile floors and lay wood floors and carpet. Fully trained construction carpenters can easily switch from new-home building to remodeling which is quite common with Hasler Homes.

Journeyman

The journeyman carpenter designation is an occupational title given to an individual who has successfully completed a formal apprenticeship program. Journeyman carpenters use a variety of tools to accurately measure, cut and join wood, drywall, fiberglass, plastic and other building materials. Depending on their particular jobs, they frame structures and walls and install cabinets, ceilings, doors, floors, fixtures, prefabricated panels and scaffolding. Journeyman carpenters supervise the activities of laborers, carpenter’s helpers and apprentices. They use measuring devices, electric saws, hammers, levels, miter boxes, pneumatic nail guns, sanding machines and squares. Journeyman carpenters also construct underground partitions, braces and specialty concrete forms. Many jobs require carpenters to be able to read and act on blueprints and other plan documents.

Foreman

The construction trades general foreman provides leadership and is responsible for, although not limited too: scheduling, workface planning, coordinating, supervising, assisting in cost control and ensuring the safety, consistent and fair application of all Labour Relations policies and procedures, proper apprentice training and productivity of crews at the workface who install/assemble components of industrial products and structures. As a key participant in the relationship with the contractor, other contractors, company and client, the general foreman is generally the second management level and has a further role as a coordinating manager and client interface.

Project Manager

The project manager plans and coordinates all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors and working with engineers, architects and vendors. A single managermight oversee an entire construction project, or multiple managers might oversee specific aspects of a larger project.

Our Loyalty to the ITA Apprenticeship Program

Why is apprenticeship training important? For hundreds of years, valuable trade skills and knowledge have been passed down from one generation to the next through apprenticeships. When we hire an apprentice, we are investing in the future of our business and our economy, while allowing the apprentice to learn from a certified trade person in an everyday work environment. If you have experience in carpentry and are looking for a career with a top-tier contracting company, contact us to find out how to begin your apprenticeship with Hasler Homes Ltd.
