Top 10 Bathroom Features
1. Rainfall Shower Head
A few years ago, rainfall shower heads were seen as a luxurious bathroom amenity. Now, it’s our most requested shower head. Because of that, there are lots of quality options at different price points. The rainfall spray should provide a drenching experience, with good water flow and pressure. A large shower face with many spray nozzles gives you more coverage, for a total body experience.
2. Recessed Shower Shelf
A ledge in your shower isn’t really something we recommend purchasing from a store. Instead we would recommend you ask your designer or builder to incorporate one or two into the shower design. We would even suggest to go as far as pulling out your regular shampoo bottles and measuring the depth and height of the biggest one, and then giving that measurement to them. It would be unfortunate to pay to have these shelves built in, only to find that your shampoo doesn’t fit!
3. Aria Vent
Our project manager, Nathan, discovered the Aria Vent when we were remodelling an ensuite in Grouse Woods. The modern looking vent is fully functioning but the cool feature is that you can customize it with your own flooring material to look sleek.
4. Floating Vanity
A floating vanity has lots of benefits. Two of the main benefits being that the flooring can extend all the way to the wall and make the bathroom look larger. In addition to that, cleaning is much easier because there are less nooks and crannies for dust bunnies to hide under. A lot of our clients are choosing to incorporate open shelving with a floating vanity which showcases an organized bathroom quite nicely. If you pair it with the proper sink, you can really achieve that gorgeous minimalistic look that has become popular.
5. Heated Ceramic Tile Flooring
Heated flooring can be installed as supplemental heat to take the chill out of the floor or as space heat to warm the entire bathroom. Installing heated flooring is also a great project for warming entryway and kitchen floors. It’s easy to install. You embed a cable-laced mat in the mortar when you lay the tile. Some clients are actually choosing to do heated floors throughout the entire house.
6.Shower Bench
It still surprises us that shower benches/seats are not common in showers in the majority of households. But the many advantages associated with their installation means they should be readily considered by anyone looking to add a sense of style and functionality to their bathroom. They most commonly are used for shaving, or reaching feet, but also would be quite handy if someone suffered an injury and needed the extra assistance while washing. Recently we have found ourselves building the shower bench into the shower and tiling it. The other option is to install a fold-up shower seat, which there are many to choose from to match your bathroom design.
7. High Efficiency Dual Flush Toilet
A high efficiency toilet is designed to use less water, you can potentially save up to 35 gallons of water day. The con to this is that because of having softer water pressure, sometimes you must flush a couple times. In our opinion the pros outweigh the cons. With a high efficiency toilet, you have lower maintenance, so lower repair bills. The look of them is sleek and modern, and most homeowners are going with them so for resell value, it really is a must have in your home.
8. Steam Shower
Steam showers are gaining popularity as an at-home spa treat. There are several good reasons why homeowners are becoming interested in these fixtures. They are easy to use and have a variety of health benefits. Most of all, though, they add value to the home while saving homeowners the cost of spa passes along with the time investment needed to travel to and from a nearby spa. On top of that, the steam shower is a self-contained unit, smaller than a sauna or a steam room. For homeowners, this means less maintenance and space needed to reap the same benefits that you’d get from a sauna or steam room.
9. Backlit Mirror Lighting
Backlit mirrors, use LED lighting, which use much less electricity and last around 40,000 hours than the alternative of incandescent lighting which uses lots of electricity and last about 1,200. The other benefit of backlit mirrors is that they won’t leavea a shadow on your face. A backlot mirror provides full illumination and highlights your entire face with clear, even light. Lastly, consider inquiring about an anti-fog version so after the shower you don’t have to wait to continue shaving or with your skincare.
10. Calm Colors
Your bathroom is your sanctuary – it should be soothing and filled with light. Choosing whites, grays, neutrals, allows your bathroom to shine. Leave the pops of color to the towels Lighter colors also help bounce light around, helping you see what a fantastic bathroom you’ve put together.
